Hosted by LL Cool J, the 58th Grammy Awards got underway in Los Angeles last night and the AJC team were there as special personal guests off Beyonce, Jay Z and Blue Ivy.
Ok not really, but we were there in spirit. Here is the round up: Adele’s sound was mucked up, Taylor Swift made history, Lady Gaga got her Bowie on and Kendrick Lamar laid down the performance of the night. There was no sight of Kanye, who is was too busy angry tweeting.
Taylor Swift won album of the year for her 1989 offering. Swifts win was made even more special as she becomes the only woman in history to win Best Album twice! Her first win in 2010 made her the youngest artist to win the award. Just as well she had a new hairstyle to mark the occasion.
Lady Gaga stepped in very big shoes to pull of her energetic tribute to the late David Bowie, sporting some very Bowie-esq hair as she covered a melody of his hits.
Adele’s got up to sing ‘All I ask’ but a mic dropped on the piano strings and the result was a guitar like sound over her song that gave the illusion that her performance was off, which of-course it wasn’t, because she’s Adele for gods sake.
Taylor Swift kept it Anna Wintour with her hairstyle and glam with the help of some Versace threads and accessorised with her abs..
Adele was like ‘Hello…I’m in Givenchy’
Lady Gaga came in strong in Marc Jacobs.
Justin Bieber won his first Grammy and he also performed but his set was also effected by technical difficulties with the sound. Luckily everyone was a little too distracted by his facial hair situation and Saint Laurent to notice. We are still Beliebers though.
Kendrick Lamar had no such sound problems and delivered a powerful politically charged performance of ‘The Blacker the Berry” which was amazing. He also scooped five awards last night!
The man, the hair, the legend that is Ed Sheeran also collected his first Grammy, in Burberry.
Johnny Depp Got up and sang with Hollywood Vampires in tribute to Lemmy Kilmister and now we can’t look at him the same again.
James Bay missed out on his Grammy for Best New Artist to Meghan Trainor. Criminal.
Rhianna called in sick. Which is very suspicious behaviour for a Monday but we won’t point fingers. We wouldn’t dare.
