AJC93 at Creative Head’s Most Wanted Awards in London

Josh Woods receiving the Hair Icon award from Joico Vice President Eric Kater

Earlier this week, AJC93 attended Creative Head’s Most Wanted Awards, one of the most important events in the hair industry. Celebrating British hairdressing’s finest talent in salon and session, the nominees were phenomenal colourists, business innovators and inspiring stylists. Hair magazine Creative Head’s Most Wanted awards recognise the finest individuals, the best teams and the most outstanding salons in UK hairdressing today. Our client, JOICO was one of the sponsors of the event and Vice President, Eric Kater was delighted to present the Hair Icon award to Josh Woods.

Tickets to the event sold-out weeks ago and there were six hundred guests in Guildhall’s magnificent medieval Great Hall. With everyone decked out to the nines, and showing off their ‘dos, it was a glamorous night!

Sprinkling a little Stardust

GianniLast week photography legend David Bailey was in Edinburgh to launch his long awaited “Stardust” Exhibition at the Scottish National Gallery. Friend of AJC, session stylist, Gianni Scumaci was here with Bailey and we managed to spend a couple hours with him to chat about his life on the road working with the world’s most famous photographer.

The exhibition, which features images that Gianni Scumaci has collaborated with Bailey on, demonstrates the breadth of his work, encompassing iconic portraits, defining images of London’s East End, and global photography. The exhibition has been curated by Bailey and its installation in Scotland is being directed by him. It is arranged thematically and the majority of the portraits on show have been newly printed.

The Coterie

The AJC team was delighted to be invited along to an audience with the legendary session stylist and godfather of hair, Sam McKnight recently. Hosted by Creative Head Magazine, The Coterie, gets up close and personal with the fashion industry’s top names in revealing, intriguing and inspiring interviews. Sam was on great form, fresh back from the Chanel Couture show where his futuristic bobs stole the show, and asking the questions was the wonderful Anna-Marie Solowij, former beauty director of Vogue and now the business brains behind online and high street beauty retailer BeautyMART. Having known one another for over twenty years, their friendship made the interview uniquely intimate and a thoroughly enjoyable experience for those of us in the audience.

Windle & Moodie… we couldn’t say no.

Known for constantly pushing the envelope with his innovative styling and persistent re-invention of how beauty should be perceived, Vogue regular Neil Moodie has climbed to the top of the hairstyling arena to become one of the industry’s most applauded and well loved names. Therefore, when Neil and his equally renowned business partner Mr Paul Windle asked us to work with them on a styling seminar in Glasgow recently, how could we say no?

sienna-miller-beautyBoth Paul and Neil, having spent much of their careers behind the scenes on editorial shoots for Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire and the like, working with big name stars such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Sienna Miller, Drew Barrymore, Suki Waterhouse, Cara Delevingne…and wowed us all in the early noughties with the incredible Bumble & Bumble range have put their creative skills and industry know-how into their new outstanding eponymous hair care and styling range, Windle & Moodie.

The seminar was held at the SWG3 photographic studio in Glasgow where forty of Scotland’s finest stylists gathered to be educated, inspired and generally bowled over by the charisma, talent and experience of the duo and impressed by the standard and versatility of the new range.

The Windle & Moodie products are an extension of Paul and Neil’s award-winning Covent Garden salon, inspired by their editorial and fashion heritage and if they pass the rigorous test of being used backstage or in the salon they make the grade. The packaging is as sexy and tasteful as you would hope, perhaps even slightly masculine and the fragrances are subtle, natural and uplifting. Our favourite product (and Neil’s kit bag essential) is the Matte Texture Spray (£20 250ml), an invisible spray that creates instant texture, volume and body – what’s not to love?
